Why I am a huge fan of road trips? I think it’s because of freedom.
You can do whatever you want and feel like doing; you can follow your own pace, no schedule to follow; you can listen to the awesome road trip music and sing while driving; you can travel with really good friends, sometimes a trip is best measured in friends, rather than miles…
But even if it's a flexible trip, you need to account for these tips before you set off, to make sure you can get to your destination safely and comfortably.
1. ALWAYS HAVE GOOD AND ENOUGH SLEEP TO KEEP CLEAR
Get at least seven hours of sleep; keep stopping roughly every 100 miles or two hours. When you are drowsy, you need to stop for a nap.
2. BUY A GPS AND PAPER MAP
You can use both online and offline guidance tools for double fun. Google map is accurate and efficient, and paper maps will give this road trip a little nostalgia value.
3. KNOW YOUR ROUTE AND DOWNLOAD A GREAT APP
Make sure you exactly know the route and how long it’ll take you. Download a great app where you can check millions of interesting destinations and sights.
4. MUSIC AND OTHER TIME-KILLING DIVERSIONS
You can prepare some awesome road trip music in advance;or check out local radio as well to hear new music. If you have children passengers, make sure they are entertained with books, puzzles, or other road trip games.
5. BRING ENOUGH FOOD
Pack a cooler box and store enough snacks and drinks in it. Who knows when we will eat the next meal? After all, we are on a road trip.
6. EXPERIENCE CAMPING
You can take an SUV tent and sleeping pads and bags with you, and try camping in some campsites instead of hotels or motels. It’s cheap, easy and a great way to meet people.
7. EXPLORE ROADS LESS TRAVELED AND STAY SAFE
You can go down those small roads to see so much more, meet the locals, but be sensible. When you do that always let someone know where you are and where you’re going.
8. GET THE RULES OF THE ROAD AND EMERGENCY CALL NUMBER
Make sure you master the rules of the road for the country you’re visiting and store your local emergency number in your phone.
Now you’ve got the basic rules of a road trip, it’s time to set out and explore more great of the unknown world. Let's go!
