I had a similarly sized tent back in the 1980's that didn't weigh nearly as much as this one does. The reason? All the poles were aluminum. This is the main thing I don't like about this tent - it weighs 42 lbs. That's a lot for a tent, even one this big. Being totally honest - you could knock 8-10 lbs off this with aluminum poles instead of the steel ones it comes with. Or fiberglass (some are). Or carbon fiber.Like most larger tents, setup is a bit more involved than with smaller pup tents. They claim 15 minutes...do yourself a favor and allow for 30.Really like that it connects to the back of the SUV. This makes it nice because you can turn on the radio in your vehicle rather than having a radio taking up precious tent space. Make sure you have a battery charger hooked up to your SUV if you want to enjoy this for very long, however.I would like to point out that the preliminary testing I did on this didn't include any inclement weather. They claim it's waterproof, but I can't vouch for that until it's actually been through a rain storm. I have no idea when this will be (can I hope for never?) but in the event I'm using this in the rain and I have a problem, I'll be sure to come back and make a note. It's a good tent for the money (especially if you can snag a coupon or find it on sale), but it has some weight to it. Make sure lifting 42 lbs in and out of your vehicle isn't a problem, for most it shouldn't be but that is a consideration for some.

This is a high quality tent. It's easy to assemble and disassemble, once you understand what you're doing. However, the instructions are useless. It took three of us to figure it out, but it was all worth it once we got it together. It's very spacious. It's made with a very high quality fabric. And, in case you were wondering, you do not need a vehicle to use the tent. It's made so that you can close that part of the tent off, if you want, and use the tent alone.

Great Tent; Setup is complicated - instructions vague

We loved using this tent on our "glamping" trip this summer. Loved the extra space (set up my kitchen in the "front" room and were able to fit a king size blow up mattress in the main room). Got rained on several times, and it stayed dry inside. Condensation built up on the inside of the fly, as it should, and everything from the tent inwards stayed perfectly dry. It took some practice runs to learn how best to tie the lines for the heavy winds we experienced, but the tent held up. However, it did arrive with some quality issues. Seemed a piece of the tent fabric had been cut through with a box knife prior to being put in the storage bag and boxed for shipping. We also had a pole split the first night. Will be reaching out to customer service to see what they're willing to do about it. The instructions are basically worthless... they are missing steps and details which could have saved us some real headaches. But by the 3rd stop, we had learned the tricks and developed a system for setup. Unfortunately, it did not fit perfectly with our Kia Carnival mini van (our van is too big) but we made it work. Removed the car attachement and used it as a stand alone tent for most of the trip.

Hi JD,

Thank you so much for sharing your detailed feedback and experiences with the tent. We're thrilled to hear that it made your 'glamping' trip enjoyable and provided the extra space you needed. It's great to know that it kept you dry during the rain and held up in the heavy winds after some practice.

We sincerely apologize for the quality issues you encountered, including the cut fabric and the pole splitting. Please rest assured, we take these matters very seriously and are committed to resolving them. I'll be reaching out to our customer service team to ensure we address these concerns promptly.

Regarding the instructions, we appreciate your input and will work on improving them to prevent any future headaches for our customers. Your patience and resourcefulness in figuring out the setup are commendable.

Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing our tent for your adventures.

5 stars for floor seats

The floor mat is outstanding in every aspect. Its high-quality, durable material withstands rugged outdoor use, providing a sturdy base whether camping on rocky terrain or sandy beaches. The mat offers excellent comfort and insulation, keeping the interior warm and cozy, especially during chilly nights. Its waterproof nature makes cleanup easy, effectively keeping moisture out even in rainy conditions.

Great addition for our JK!

We are very pleased with this tent. It is not too hard to set up and is quite spacious. It can open up enough to let a decent breeze through so you don't overheat in the bright sun, but also can hold in the body heat for warmth once closed up tight if camping on a cooler night.
My hubby plans on using it mostly for doing "Parks on the Air" activations and Field Day activities with his Ham Radio setup in there and an air mattress in the Jeep bed for sleeping (IF he sleeps!)
The one quibble we have is the WEIGHT. At around 42 pounds, it is a HEFTY tent. Mostly due to the heavier fabric (more of a canvas than the rip-stop most tents are made of these days) and VERY sturdy metal poles.
Of course, since this would be for "car camping" and it attaches TO the vehicle, at least you don't need to carry it far from the vehicle to begin!

Very cool option for SUV camping

This is a great addition to the gear I keep in the back of my explorer. Mainly for camping trips, but also there in case of emergencies. This is a great little shelter, and it attaches right to the back of your SUV. You can extend your personal space quite a bit, and keep everything pretty secure.

It is very easy to set up, and attached to the vehicle, very little assembly required. It is also really easy to disassemble, and repack away. It does not take up that much space while being stored, but it does take some. It is also not the most lightweight tent, it is meant to be left in the vehicle.

It is made out of very high-quality materials, and does not seem to have any leaks. It is recommended to use a can of "camp dry" about once a year anyways to keep it waterproof. this tenant should be around for many seasons to come, with proper maintenance, and storage.

Overall, this is a great option for vehicle camping. It is very easy to store, set up, attached, and use. Highly recommended.

Plenty of space for a family of 4 and a couple of dogs.

This tent is serious! Its probably the biggest tent i've ever used. Setup is pretty easy but can be a bit time consuming the first time. The instructions were pretty straight forward though. I love that we can put an air mattress in our cargo area for a separate sleeping space and it's still a part of the tent. Looking forward to many adventures going forward

This is an amazing waterproof car tent!! Perfect for on the go emergencies, or camping off of the ground LOL. It is just as described once it is put together and you have everything you need to get it together! The material is very high quality and not easily rippable or damaged! The value for the money is very outstanding and we would definitely get it again! 10 out of 10

I requested this KingCamp SUV tent to review for a trip I plan on taking in a few months. I am a beginner when it comes to tents and camping. The quality of the tent is what I expected. For recreational, family camping it is of good quality. It's heavy and strong enough that it will protect from the elements and be durable. But it is light enough to be manageable. The weight of the tent is 42 pounds. It has many thoughtful features, like the awning, room divider and pouches for stuff like phones and keys. The poles are very strong and are easy to assemble and disassemble with the elastic cords inside. The plastic connecters/holders, grommets and clips for the poles are heavy duty. The fit is excellent. It comes with stakes and cords. It has straps to tie around wheels and and clip to the wells for the part that goes over the back of an SUV. I have a very small SUV and it fit over mine. It has elastic around the opening so it will fit over larger ones.I mentioned that I am a novice, so I found the instructions that are attached to the inside of the storage bag, a bit confusing. Especially with bar E2. An experienced camper would find the instructions and video of more help. My specific issue is the drawings did not show, for example, the sleeve that bar E2 goes into or on what part of the tent. Also, there is no guide on using or placing the cords or some of the straps. Now that I've put it together, the instructions make more sense. The quality of the cords, spikes, storage bags were very good. The tent was taught with the poles. It is definitely a two person job to set this tent up. I pitched it by myself because I had nobody available to help, but with two people, especially after doing it once, set up is not that hard. This is a large tent. For me, I think this tent sleeps four adults very comfortably and allows for extra stuff like bags inside, as well as some moving around. At seven feet in the center, most people could even stand up, even towards the edges. I think this is more glamping than camping. For camping, I think it could sleep six adults comfortably.I rated it four stars because I found the directions were confusing, for a novice, and it was missing two cords--it came with eight, not ten that it said it should have. Other than those two issues, it is a very good, quality tent. It is sturdy, fits over the back of a truck or SUV, has two rooms and an awning. I also like how everything fit in the storage bag and that the bag had straps to tighten it and strong carrying handles.
